JUDGING THE TOY FOX TERRIER
Five Top Toy Fox Terrier Breeders Explain...
What is the single most important breed feature judges should consider when judging the Toy Fox Terrier?
The word "ELEGANT" may be the most important word in the standard. This breed is identified by the head. It should never be “apple-headed”. The ears should be high and close set. - UKC Judge Violet Denney
AKC & UKC GOLD GR CH Foxlair Hi-De-Ho Smokey Joe "Joe", handled by Chris Jones is showing judges exceptional type in the Toy Fox Terrier breed rings. AKC Group judges also recognize his balance and soundness by consistently awarding him in tough competition. WHEN Joe retires from the conformation ring, he will begin a new career as an agility dog.
Ms Denny explains the most common breed fault judges should note before awarding ribbons is...
Incorrect fronts and rears. The Toy Fox Terrier was designed to run, jump, turn on a dime and hunt rodents. As a UKC judge, I demand correct movement. When coming at me, I want to see just the front legs and when going away, I don’t want to see front legs inside or outside of the rear legs. Seeing all four legs on the down-and-back indicates one end or the other is moving too wide or too close. Both ends have to be balanced for the breed to be as agile as it needs to be.
